March Court of Honor

When: Mar 26, 2023 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Where: Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church (Tenant Hall)
Event Details: 

We have much planned in place of this weeks Sunday Troop meeting.  In its place, we will begin with SPL election and leadership assignments beginning at 3:00pm.  The adults will be asked to participate in a Scoutmaster election at the same time the SPL election is happening.  At 3:30pm we will have a short Friends of Scouting presentation followed by our March Court of Honor where we will go through MB awards, advancements, swear in new leadership, transition of Committee Chair, and Scoutmaster minute.

We are asking that Scouts and Adults be present and on-time at 3:00pm so that we can get through all the activities in a timely manner as we only have the Church until 5:00pm and have quite a bit to get through.

Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scout - Patrick Smith

Congratulations to our latest Eagle Scout, Patrick Smith.
 
Patrick replaced a compost bin and built a tool shed as his Eagle Project for Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church.
 
Patrick completed his Eagle Board of Review on February 16th, 2023.

March Campout - Copper Break State Park

When: Mar 17-19, 2023
Where: Copper Break State Park
Event Details: 

Hiking, Mountain biking and Stargazing the rugged beauty and rich history of Copper Breaks State Park.  Early Americans, including the Comanche, camped in this part of North Texas for thousands of years, replenishing body and soul. You can do the same today at Copper Breaks State Park.  

Explore the Park on 10 miles of trails. Challenge yourself on rocky biking trails, choose your own adventure on a network of hiking loops, or take your time and ride the equestrian trails.  

The International Dark Sky Association has designated Copper Breaks as an International Dark Sky Park. Scouts will have an opportunity to work on the Astronomy merit badge or just enjoy the nighttime sky and telescope set up. 

Scouts will have a rare opportunity to complete a 20-mile hike as part of the Hiking Merit Badge or work on the Biking Merit badge while Mountain Biking.

Online Merit Badges

Scout BSA Members may select our very own Committee Member, Sandra Mucha, as their MERIT BADGE Counselor in Scoutbook. She currently provides these convenient lessons in Art, Sculping, and Textiles based on her previous experience. Scouts learn different step-by-step techniques using pencil, ink, watercolors, pastels, acrylics while earning their Art. Fabric, Eco-Awareness, and a weaving lessons while enrolled in Textiles. Stay tuned for more classes!!

February 2023 Campout - Quartz mining and hiking

When: Feb 10-12, 2023
Where: Camp Preston Hunt, Texarkana, AR
Event Details: 

This campout will give Scouts an opportunity to learn about quartz mining in Arkansas and potentially earn the Geology Merit Badge.  Mr. Bishop will run a merit badge class at a Troop meeting prior to the trip.  For the campout itself, we will camp in Texarkana to lessen the distance on Friday and Sunday for travel.  On Saturday, we will travel to Ron Coleman Mining in Jessieville, Ar.  We will dig for quartz and depart for a nearby hike after lunch.  Scouts should come back with some quartz (it is hard not to find some).  Some may come back with a few nice crystals.  Around 4:30pm, we will head back to camp, have dinner, and enjoy a campfire.

Winter Camp 2023

When: Jan 13th-16th, 2023
Where: Arrowhead State Park, Canadian, OK
Event Details: 
Troop 1776 has a proud tradition of offering high quality merit badge classes and counseling at its annual Winter Camp. This year we will offer 16 merit badges.  We will do four merit badge classes with four options during each session on Saturday and Sunday. Scouts sleep in cabins and adults do the cooking.  Scouts may bring video games/tvs for this campout as well as cards/boardgames for their free time. Ice cream continues for movie night this year!
